NYC Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (220g) packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, cold
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups (340g) semisweet chocolate chips or chunks
- Sea salt flakes, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Cream the butter and sugars:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cold, cubed butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Use a stand mixer with the paddle attachment or a hand mixer to cream the mixture on medium speed until it is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the eggs and vanilla:
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Mix the dry ingredients:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips:
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips or chunks using a spatula or wooden spoon.
- Shape the cookies:
- Divide the dough into large balls, about 3 1/2 ounces (100g) each. You can use a kitchen scale to measure the dough. Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart to allow for spreading.
- Chill the dough (optional but recommended):
- For best results, chill the shaped dough balls in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before baking. This helps the cookies maintain their shape and develop a better texture.
- Bake the cookies:
- Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still slightly soft. The cookies will continue to cook and set as they cool on the baking sheet.
- Cool and garnish:
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheet for 10 minutes. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. While the cookies are still warm, sprinkle them with sea salt flakes.
- Serve:
- Enjoy your NYC-style chocolate chip cookies with a glass of cold milk or your favorite beverage.
These cookies are perfect for those who love thick, chewy, and indulgent chocolate chip cookies. Enjoy!
