Boulettes de Bœuf au Parmesan, Basilic et Tomates Confites
Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, finely chopped (if using oil-packed, drain them first)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)
For the Tomato Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces/800g) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil leaves, chopped (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Meatballs:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, minced garlic, chopped fresh basil, finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet or plate and set aside.
- Cook the Meatballs:
- Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs to the skillet in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
- Cook the meatballs for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Tomato Sauce:
- In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and heat over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Combine Meatballs and Sauce:
- Return the cooked meatballs to the skillet with the tomato sauce. Gently stir to coat the meatballs with the sauce. Cover and simmer for an additional 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve:
- Garnish the meatballs with chopped fresh basil if desired.
- Serve the meatballs hot, accompanied by pasta, rice, or crusty bread.
