Butter Swim Biscuits
Butter Swim Biscuits
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups (300g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups (420ml) buttermilk
- 1/2 cup (1 stick or 113g) unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Prepare the Butter:
- Place the stick of butter in a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- Put the dish in the preheating oven until the butter is completely melted. This should take about 5 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven once the butter is melted.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Add the Buttermilk:
- Pour the buttermilk into the bowl with the dry ingredients.
- Stir until just combined. The dough will be quite sticky and wet, which is normal.
- Prepare the Biscuits:
- Carefully pour the biscuit dough into the baking dish with the melted butter. The butter will spread around the edges and may come over the top of the dough, which is what you want.
- Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to evenly spread the dough in the dish.
- Cut the Dough:
- Using a knife, cut the dough into 9 squares (3 cuts each way), making sure the knife goes all the way to the bottom of the dish. This helps the biscuits to bake evenly and makes them easier to separate after baking.
- Bake the Biscuits:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve:
- Remove the baking dish from the oven and let the biscuits cool for a few minutes.
- Cut the biscuits along the lines you made earlier and serve warm.
Enjoy your Butter Swim Biscuits! These biscuits are wonderfully buttery, fluffy, and perfect for breakfast or as a side with your favorite meal.
