Donut Grilled Cheese with Bacon and Maple
Ingredients
- 4 glazed donuts, cut in half horizontally
- 8 slices of bacon
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 4 slices of American cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- Maple syrup (for drizzling)
Instructions
- Cook the Bacon:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy, about 8-10 minutes. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
- Prepare the Donuts:
- Slice the glazed donuts in half horizontally to create “buns” for the grilled cheese.
- Assemble the Sandwiches:
- On the cut side of each donut half, place one slice of cheddar cheese and one slice of American cheese.
- Break the cooked bacon slices in half and place them on top of the cheese on the bottom halves of the donuts.
- Top with the other halves of the donuts to form a sandwich.
- Butter the Donuts:
- Spread a thin layer of softened butter on the outside (top and bottom) of each donut sandwich.
- Grill the Sandwiches:
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet, buttered side down.
- Cook until the donuts are golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes per side. Press down gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking and melting.
- Serve:
- Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and place them on a cutting board.
- Drizzle each sandwich with a little maple syrup.
- Enjoy:
- Serve the donut grilled cheese sandwiches warm. Optionally, cut them in half for easier handling.
